When I was a Minister, I heard compelling evidence about the harm caused by excessively loud fireworks — particularly for veterans living with PTSD, and for some children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), as well as for animals.
During a Westminster Hall debate on a petition calling for restrictions on firework sales, I argued for reducing the permitted noise level from the current 120 decibels.
This is a practical change that would make a real and meaningful difference to the wellbeing of both people and animals.
