Lovely to meet Mike Ward, the new Chief Executive of Port Sunlight Village Trust, the independent charity responsible for preserving and promoting one of Wirral’s most treasured places.
Port Sunlight was the vision of industrialist William Lever, who in 1888 began creating a model village for workers at his soap factory, named after Lever Brothers’ famous Sunlight Soap.
Today, Port Sunlight is a conservation area containing more than 900 Grade II listed buildings set within 130 acres of beautiful parkland and gardens.
One interesting project currently underway is the restoration of The Boating Pond, a much-loved village landmark in front of the Lady Lever Art Gallery, designed in the 1930s by Lever Brothers’ architect James Lomax-Simpson for the sailing of toy boats.
