MP urges action over “barbaric” fox hunting in Cheshire

Ellesmere Port & Neston MP, Justin Madders has called for enforcement to take place following recent reports of illegal fox hunting in Cheshire.

Speaking in Parliament, Justin referred to “a number of reports of foxes being hunted by hounds in Cheshire” and stated that “graphic and disturbing images have been plastered all over the internet.” He called for the Leader of the House of Commons, David Lidington MP to allow a debate on what more can be done to uphold the law.

Hunting foxes with hounds was banned in England and Wales in November 2004. A poll conducted by Ipsos MORI in December found that 84 per cent of the public believe fox hunting should remain illegal.

Commenting, Justin said:

“Hunting with hounds is inhumane and an overwhelming majority of the public support the fact that it is a criminal offence.

“Recent reports of illegal hunting activities in Cheshire are deeply concerning and I expect the Police to respond robustly to these incidents.”
